Where is Your Trust?

FEAR IS RAMPANT! It is ramping both in and out of the church. And Jesus said it would be that way just before His return, "Men's hearts will fail them for fear..." He warned (Luke 21:26). We are therefore in grave danger of setting our trust in the Spirit of Egypt.

God has been calling His children out of Egypt from the book of Genesis through the book of Revelation, at least 400 times. The call is addressed to the person who seeks to identify himself as a child of God.

We must come out of Egypt. We must cease to live in the spirit of the kind of thinking that locks us into the prison of Satan's household. We must recognize that way as bondage. God has called us out of that bondage, out of a mindset that locks Christians into looking at life from Satan's point of view. It is the ultimate expression of the carnal mind; it is enmity against God.

God wants us to come out of Egypt! We can find no stronger warning than in Isaiah, chapters 30 and 31:

"Woe to the rebellious children saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: That walk to go down into Egypt" (Isa. 30:1-2a, KJV).

The children are those who claim to be God's family; that is why He addresses them as children. In God's eyes, the rest are of a different family.

"Woe to the rebellious children...That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt, your confusion. That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD" (Isa. 30: 1-3, 9).

God's concern is not that His children cannot hear but they will not hear. And as a result, they do not trust Him as their "I AM." God laments His people who will not hear the word of the Lord. Isaiah continued this heart-rending lament:

"Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and say thereon: Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach.... For thus saith the LORD Gods, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses... and, We will ride upon the swift" (Isa. 30:12-13, 15-16).

What is God saying here? The horses are a symbol of the power of man—symbol of the strength of man. And they said, "We will not trust You, God. We will flee upon the horses. We will ride upon the swift."

"Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!" (Isa. 31:1).

You cannot get any clearer than that. "Woe to them that go down to Egypt." David translated it this way: "Some trust in chariots, and some trust in horses, but we will remember the name of the LORD our God" (Ps. 20:7, MEV).

Look at the things you are concerned about in your life. What are the needs in your life? Where do you turn first for the resolution of those needs? What are your fears? Who do you trust?

Is it your banker? Is it your doctor? Your psychiatrist...or the government? Is that where you turn first? Is that the first thought that comes into your mind? Or is it, "But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:19, KJV)? See, "Some trust in chariots, and some trust in horses," but who will we trust in? That is what God is asking.

God is probing deeply. Where do you truly put your trust? Whom do you trust? What do you trust? That is the ultimate test of our time.
